Company / History

Dr. A. Gupta is a board certified dermatologist. He is on the Editorial Board/ Advisory Board/ Section Editor of 20 journals and has served on the Dermatology Expert Committee of the United States Pharmacopoeia. He is the Treasurer and Board Member of the Council of Nail Disorders. Dr. Gupta who has written over 400 publications is also on the Board of Directors of the Skin of Color Society. Dr. Gupta produces 10-15 articles annually in the field of medicine.

Dr. Gupta started his medical practice in 1992 in a 1,500 sq. ft. clinic in the city of London, Ontario. He began to consult with pharmaceutical companies in 1998 and initiated his first clinical trial in 1999. At the same time, he opened a 1,000 sq. ft. laboratory in Toronto, Canada dedicated to basic research of fungal species responsible for clinical skin diseases.

By 2000, the business of clinical research experienced strong growth that resulted in the creation of the company Mediprobe Research dedicated to Phase II-IV studies in dermatology. Rapidly, the clinical operations outgrew the small clinic.

In 2003, Dr. Gupta acquired an 18,000 sq. ft. building at 645 Windermere Road, London, which was the Ontario Music Conservatory. After extensive renovations, Mediprobe Research consolidated the medical practice, the clinical research operations of Phase II-IV trials and a custom built 2,000 sq. ft. research laboratory and strengthened its management team in the new building in the summer of 2004.

In 2005, a new business was formed under the name AG Pharma to make strategic alliances with pharmaceutical companies to co-develop their pharmaceutical agents leading to sales and marketing. Dr. Gupta launched another business in 2005 called Avail Spa & Cosmetic Surgical Centre. The services of Avail include Botox and fillers, facials and peels, and the treatment of small leg veins.

In order to provide the full range of clinical research services, Acclaim Pharma Research Inc. was created in 2006. Acclaim Pharma Research Inc. is a Phase I Contract Research Organization that specializes in the management of bioequivalence and bioavailability studies and first-in-human in-house clinical trials. The 10,600 sq. feet building is located a few minutes from Mediprobe at the corner of Richmond Street and Windermere Road, across from the University of Western Ontario that has approximately 29,000 students and staff. The clinic has 90 beds including a state of the art ICU unit with 10 beds.

Acclaim Pharma Research Inc is the first and only Phase I clinic of its kind in the city of London. It allows conducting a wide variety of clinical trials in-house with subjects comfortably housed for days at a time. The new studies include bioavailability trials with pharmaceutical products and in-house clinical trials with any pharmaceutical, biotech or natural health product.
