Study Requirements
What can I use for identification?
The following are the only Identifications that will be accepted by Acclaim Pharma Research Inc.
• Passport
• Driver’s License
• Immigrant Status Card
• Health Card (with picture).
We require government issued ID that contains your picture, name and date of birth on the same ID.
Same ID has to be used in all clinic visits.

No Health Card
You need to provide us with proof of health coverage in Ontario. If you are a resident of Canada, contact the Ministry of Health to find out how to obtain a Health card (Resident of Ontario: Ontario Health Insurance Plan or OHIP). If you are visiting from another province of Canada, as per provincial law, your provincial health card is valid for 3 months after you leave your home province, you will need to obtain other health coverage after 3 months. Other forms of health coverage may be accepted and include student health insurance, travel health insurance, and approved immigration status papers that state you have health coverage.

Study and Volunteer Information
Most studies we conduct at Acclaim Pharma require healthy men and women volunteers 18 years old and above.

What does "Healthy Volunteer" mean at Acclaim Pharma?
Men and women or Volunteers that are not currently taking any routine medications (birth control is usually allowed), and have no medical conditions (examples are asthma, diabetes, heart problem, etc.) We do anticipate conducting studies on those volunteers who have medical conditions in the future, but have not begun yet. Contact the study recruiters for more information.

Pregnancy testing is conducted for women volunteers at the medical screening procedures and also when entering into any period of a study and after the completion or premature termination of the study. Study requires ladies who are not pregnant or lactating, and willing to use approved methods of birth control. If you have been pregnant there are restrictions for how soon you can participate in a study. Contact the study recruiters for more details.

Where do I go for medical screening exam?
You need to go our Clinical Facility for your medical screening examination. (See clinic location for details and driving directions or by bus)

Can I cancel my appointment?
You need to give our study recruiter at least 24 hours notice if you can’t make the medical screening appointment. Voicemail are set-up for after business hour calls and you can leave a message. Do not forget to leave your name and study number.

Your file will be held for 30 days if you fail to show up for your appointment and if you failed to notify us for appointment cancellation. This means that you may have to wait 30 days before you can enroll in another study.

What is the next step after my appointment?
After your medical screening examination is completed, you need to call for your results. The study information sheet you received when you came in for your medical screening, lists a specific date and time to call for your results. You will call 519–657-4222 Ext. 277 for your medical screening results. Callers are assigned their tentative subject status on a first call-first assigned basis. Please note: RESULTS NUMBER LINE ARE AVAILABLE FOR MEDICAL SCREENING RESULTS ONLY. LINES ONLY OPEN DURING RESULTS DATE AND NOT ACCEPTING ANY MESSAGES. For all other study information please call our call center lines.

If I fail a medical screening exam, what’s next?
This depends on why you did not pass your medical.
If you were tested positive for drug screen (street drugs, marijuana, cocaine, etc) test your file will be suspended based on the drug that you tested positive for. For example if your system tested positive on THC (Marijuana, pot, weed), you will have to wait six months before doing another medical screening or any study appointment.
If your blood results were outside of our required range, our physician will determine if you can participate to another medical appointment for another study or our physician will also advise if you should see your own doctor.
If you were over or under study weight restriction, you can book another medical when you feel that your weight has changed to meet our guidelines.
If you require more details, speak to one of our study recruiters.

Blood Collection and Study Participation
How much volume of blood will require per study?
Each study has its own protocol (set of rules and procedures), the study recruiters can give you that information for a specific study that you are interested in. Often the volume of blood given during a study is similar or less than to the volume given when donating blood at a hospital.

Are there any studies that don’t involve blood collection?
Not often than usual, there are some studies that don’t involve blood collection or if require is very little amount. Some studies only involve urine collection instead of blood for testing. However, there would still be blood taken at the medical exam, and there may be a small amount taken during the course of the study.

How often can I do studies?
Study Volunteers are only allowed to participate in one study at a time this also includes studies at other companies.
When you complete a study, you will be advised by our Clinical Research Coordinator regarding your time frame. You must wait for period of time to allow the drug to exit your body and to allow your body to regenerate the blood that you donated for a particular study. This period is often called a study washout or lockout period. The Recruiting Department can tell you how much blood a study will take, and how long after the study you have to wait before you can do another study.

Can I participate in a medical screening prior to my washout/lockout period?
Yes, you can participate in a medical screening examination before your washout/lockout ends as long as the next study drug administration date begins after the washout date. For example if your washout is May 06, 2007, you are permitted to participate in a study where the study drug administration date (dosing date) is set for May 07, 2007 or later.

How do I know if doing studies is safe?
When you call our study recruiter for a study, the study recruiter will give you all the information you need to know about the drug (the name of the drug we are testing, what it is used for, and side effects that are known for the drug). When you come in for your medical examination, you will be given a package (study information sheet) detailing more information about the study. While we can’t tell you that you won’t have any side effects from the drug, what we can do is provide you with enough information to make an informed decision. You can consult your family, friends, or family physician to help you determine if you should participate in the study, and our experienced staff is here to answer your questions. When you check-in for the study, you will see our physician and you can ask any study related questions and address any concerns that you may have.

Who will take care of me if I experience side effects from the drug?
You will be closely monitored during the course of the study to ensure your safety. If you have a reaction, our physician and/or experienced clinic staff will care for you.

What will I do while staying at the clinic?
Our clinic is equipped with wireless internet, a big screen televisions (theater like set up), and an extensive movie collection. We have board games and cards or reading books. Often volunteers will bring reading material or games with them. Any personal property brought to the clinic is your responsibility.

We have a computer set up in each clinic that has Internet access. You are also permitted to bring computer equipment with you.

What stuff I should bring for a stay in the clinic?
Bring your preferred clothing and toiletries (shampoo, soap, toothbrush etc.) and footwear. We will provide you with a T-shirt that identifies you to our staff, but often volunteers wear clothing under their shirt. Cell phones are permitted, or regular phones are also available.

What if I have questions after the study exit or after the study is completed?
Call your Clinical Study Coordinators assigned to your study. Their name and extension number will be provided to you at check-in session of your study or you can also call our emergency contact numbers listed on the Informed Consent Form given to you on study day.

Remuneration Information
Most of our studies pay $400.00 and up, in Canadian dollars (by cheque). The length of the study and how many visits you are required to make to the clinic determines the study payment.

Studies that required longer confinement period, or have many return visits to the clinic may pay more than regular studies. Some payment advance may be given for studies that have more return visits. The fee that you were quoted by the Recruiting Department includes these advance payments.

For some circumstances a volunteer is not able to complete his/her study participation for any reason, you will be paid based on the portion that you did complete, your payment, however, will not be available until the end of the study. While you can choose to leave the study or withdraw at any time, your participation history can be used to determine future eligibility.

We compensate you for your time you spent in a study and it is not employment income. You will not receive an employment statement from Acclaim Pharma Research Inc., and we do not deduct taxes or other related government deduction, etc. from your payment.
