Recruiting / Study Information

We are currently recruiting study participants for numerous clinical trials. To learn more about our upcoming studies call one of our Study Recruiters today at (519) 657-4222 Ext. 277.

As a worldwide role source of clinical services, our success and the recognition we have built up with major pharmaceutical and biopharmaceutical companies globally is largely due to our ability to recruit study participants and offer them environment that meet the most stringent safety standards.

To give future volunteers an idea of what they may expect from Acclaim Pharma, below are some information about a typical study.

Volunteer Personal File

To take part in a clinical study, you must first contact one of our clinic trial representatives providing us information about your current and previous medical history. This information will allow Acclaim Pharma to create your own volunteer personal profile and offer you studies that match this profile. A unique subject code number will also be assigned to you and will be used to identify you whenever you contact Acclaim Pharma Research Inc.
Once you have been added to our database, Study Recruiters will be able to identify studies that match your profile and availability.

Study Volunteer Assessment
Participants/volunteers in a study are required to pass a medical exam conducted by our staff prior to any study. The Study Recruiter will then arrange a schedule for you to visit our clinic. This schedule is arranged for your study information session. Upon arrival at the clinic for your medical screening examination, you will be asked to present your Identification. Once information and details are given to you, you will then be asked to sign an Informed Consent Form (a form where you grant your consent to participate in a medical screening prior to clinical study participation). Our medical screening procedures generally include; Physician routine check- up, you will meet with one of our physicians who will assess your health by performing a general examination. Your weight, height, and body frame will be measured. Most study procedures includes: performing a urine test, collecting a blood sample and taking part in an electrocardiogram and street-drug urine testing. You may also be asked to partake in an alcohol breath test. By taking part in this screening medical examination, we are striving to ensure that your health will not be endangered in any way, while also ensuring that your physical condition presents no factors that may alter the results for a study in which you may be asked to participate.

Volunteer Selection
Once your screening medical examination is completed, you will be given a specific date and time to call our clinic for your results 519 – 657-4222 ext 277. It is a first call-first assigned- basis. If the results of your medical screening exam are satisfactory as per our in-house physician discretion, your tentative subject number will be given to you by one of our study recruiters. By accepting this tentative number you are confirming your participation in a given study. You will then be reminded and advised to follow all the instructions, prohibitions and study schedules as stated on study information sheet given to you on the day of medical screening examination.
Once the number of required volunteers obtained for a study the rest of the caller may be placed in a standby status.
We will do our best to find another study that meets your needs. Volunteer participation is essential to our success and we will do everything to make it possible for you to participate in a study.

Next Step in a Study
Once you have been accepted for a study, you will go through the following steps

Complying with Restrictions:
Before showing up for your first Period (length of stay), you will have to comply with certain restrictions as required by the study (as stated on study information sheet). Your recruiter will notify you of these restrictions in a timely manner. Restrictions are imposed to protect your safety and to ensure nothing will alter the results of assessments performed during the study.

Check In
On the first day of the study, you will check in at the agreed-upon place, date and time, usually between (17:00hr) 5:00pm and (19:00hr) 7 p.m., for your orientation. Once again your Identification will be verified. You will be asked to sign an Informed Consent Form (form where you grant your consent to participate in a study with your own discretion and full understanding), a document that provides an overall view of the study and its implications. The contents of the Informed Consent Form will be explained to you. An inspection of your belongings will be performed during the welcoming session. Light supper or snack will then be served and you will be free for the rest of the evening — while remaining bound by the restrictions, as well as staying on the Acclaim Pharma premises. The medication is usually administered the following morning

Rules and Restrictions to be Followed
The selection officer will inform you of the rules and restrictions to be followed when he/she confirms your participation in a study.

Staff
The study will be carried out under the supervision of a complete and competent team of medical personnel. An attending physician will be available at all times in the event that a study volunteer / participant has an abnormal reaction to the medication. Although the risk of this happening is low, it is possible, and we are ready to deal with this possibility at any time.

Accommodation
During the course of the study, all volunteers must adhere to a pre-determined diet. The amount of food and liquids is determined in advance. There may be a critical meal during your study, which is a meal where you have to eat everything within a certain period of time. If you have any dietary intolerance, food allergies, or other special needs, this condition must be disclose during telephone screening and medical screening procedures.

All volunteers must adhere to the established study-schedule and you will have to go to bed at a set time, usually around (22:00hr) 10:00 p.m. The wake-up call is generally around 06:00 a.m.

During the study, you will have plenty of free time for watching movies, playing board games, reading, you may do some personal work, or just relaxing. You can also bring your cell phone (cell phone with built-in camera are to be confiscated and return to you at exit day) and laptop computer, if you wish.

Study Medication
You will have to take the study medication at a specific time, generally between 07:00 and 9:00 am. Often the prescribed dose is less than the dose that is administered to people who are ill, in order to minimize any possible side effects.

Blood Sample Collection
After the medication has been administered, Clinical Research Phlebotomist (CRP) will collect blood samples at regular intervals in order to see how the medication is being absorbed and dissolved in the blood stream. In general, there will be between 15 and 23 blood samples taken per period (which usually includes one length of stay and subsequent return visits). This number may vary according to the medication. If allowed by the research protocol (a document that describes study details), we may use a catheter, which is a flexible tube that is inserted into the vein and that remains in place for a pre-determined length of time so that several blood samples can be taken without having to reinsert a needle each time. Catheters are used to reduce discomfort from multiple blood sample collections. Prior to catheter insertion your veins will be assessed by our CRP to ensure your vein can accommodate the size of the catheter. If your veins are more sensitive than the average, our CRP will inform you about it. If a catheter is not allowed, blood samples will be obtained by drawing blood with a needle.
Also, you can tell the Study Recruiter that you would rather participate in a study that uses catheters or a study in which urine samples are collected.

Exit Procedures
Your stay in the clinic must be without interruption. Once scheduled study confinement is completed, you may exit our facility either early in the morning or in the evening, whichever is stated on the signed agreement. We will remind you of the restrictions that apply for the rest of the study, and the dates and times of the return visits, if any.

Return Visits or Return Blood Draw
Many studies require return visits or blood draws. During these returns, we will collect blood samples or urine samples or perform ECG testing, whichever is required by the study protocol. The returns visits are usually early in the morning, between 06:30 and 09:00 a.m., to coincide with the time at which you received the study medication. Occasionally, there may be an evening return visit.

Study Compensation
Our volunteers always receive a study compensation for their study participation. This amount is calculated in terms of the length of time you have spent at Acclaim Pharma, how many visits you are required to make to the clinic determines the study payment, and, of course, the proportion of the study that you have completed. If you don’t complete your study, you will be paid based on the portion that you did complete, your payment, however, will not be available until the end of the study. While you can choose to leave the study at any time, your participation history can be used to determine future eligibility.
The total usually varies between $400 and $2,000, and can sometimes be more.

Studies that are long, or have many visits to the clinic sometimes have advance payments for volunteers. The fee that you were quoted by the Recruiting Department includes these advance payments.

The fee we pay you is compensation for your time and is not employment income. You will not receive an employment statement from us, and we do not deduct taxes etc. from your payment.

Complying with Restrictions
Each study has restrictions that must be adhered to. The criteria for each study vary. Check with a study recruiter to see whether your specific situation matches our volunteer selection criteria.

Drug Reaction or Side Effects
While participating in a study, the Study Recruiter will give you the name of the drug we are testing, what it is used for, and side effects that are known for the drug. When you come in for your medical screening examination, you will be given a package detailing more information about the study. While we can’t tell you that you won’t have any side effects from the drug, what we can do is provide you with enough information to make an informed decision. You can choose to take that information to your family, friends, or doctor to help you determine if you should do the study, and our staff is here to answer your questions. Our experience demonstrates that most of our volunteers do not experience any side effects. The reason for this is simple, as our selection process is extremely rigorous. Our volunteers must be healthy and they will undergo a series of tests to ascertain their current medical status. You will be informed of the results of your medical exam in the event that we find anything of concern. When you check-in for the study, you will see our physician and you can ask any study related questions and address any concerns that you may have.

To minimize the possibility of any side effects, we usually administer a lesser dose than what is given to a person who is actually being treated with the medication. Any possible side effects therefore are those that are associated with a regular use of the medication.
Our qualified staff members would be pleased to answer any questions that you may have about side effects.
